Akismet is an awesome system from the parent company of WordPress to identify and reduce spam comments on blogs. It’s an ever growing database that help you reduce the amount of spam comments appearing on your blogs.
It often happens that in the process of SEO through blog comments, legitimate users gets flagged as spammers and their comments are automatically discarded by the Akismet system into the spam database. Below are some tips on how to avoid getting into that blacklist.
Never automate Blog commenting: avoid the bot softwares to build links through blog comments as this method can be easily identified nowadays and there are plugins to block and identify such bots. This will be a free ticket to getting banned on Akismet system.
Write sensible comments: when you comment on any blog, look from the moderators point of view. If the comment does not make sense it’s like asking for trouble. Always try to spend few seconds to read the post and respond with a valuable comment to make a point, it will certainly be appreciated.
Avoid writing generic comments: i receive thousands of comments that are so generic. For example: comments like ” nice writing”, ” I agree to what you are saying here” etc. Automatically becomes eligible to be marked as spam.
Avoid hyperlinking in the body of the comment: except for when it’s really required, please try to avoid adding a hyperlink within your comment body. This could tempt the admin to mark your comment as spam.
PS: if you observe that your genuine comments are no longer appear on blogs that you comment, that means your email id is already in the Akismet spam DB. use a new one and follow the best practices from then on.
