Best 6 are: SMF, PHPBB, MYBB, Vanilla, FUD Forum, JAVABB. If you have are planning to go for a paid or premium forum script, i will say hands down vBulletin is the best due to a large number of reasons. We use vBulletin.

I was always hesitant to use the free scripts because I had heard that they are easier to hack. Not sure that is so true because my vbulletin forum has been hacked a few times as well.

Hackers are unstoppable unless your web server is hack proof. The major entry points are not because of vBulletin or other scripts, its basically because using a shared server. Even if you are perfect, a loop hole into the server root by another shared website will compromise your content as well. So security is all about knowing what to do and where..

I have just registered a domain name for an internet marketing forum.
