The last few years has been a great year for webmasters, Drupal , Joomla and wordpress has come a long way and are now a very stable Opensource CMS that can be very handy and useful for developing stunning blogs and websites.

But when it comes to You making a website and deciding which to select for your website, It gets Difficult ! So the way out is Sit down a while, chill and write down your requirements, use the Pros and Cons below to analyse which is best for you for your requirement as all are great CMS softwares !

WordPress Pros

  • Simple to use – No need for modifications
  • Excellent for blogging or sharing thoughts in a sequential manner
  • Even the most elderly of users can get the hang of it quickly

WordPress Cons

  • Not developer friendly
  • The community seems to like to complain
  • Upgrades bring more bugs than fixes sometimes

Drupal Pros

  • Extremely developer friendly. If I loved code more I would almost always pick this system.
  • Strong community to help discern the dozens (hundreds) of functions and tags available.
  • Can be used to create some really awesome websites that can outperform a majority of other sites out there.

Drupal Cons

  • Not very designer and user-friendly. It’s hard for someone with little code knowledge to make the leaps required to do the very cool things that Drupal is becoming known for.
  • Theming of Drupal has been a huge case of fail (until recently). Probably because it has been developers, not designers, that are making the themes.
  • Getting a Drupal website published could cost you more time, and thus more money, than WordPress or Joomla

Joomla Pros

  • Friendly for all types of users – Designers, Developers and Administrators
  • Huge community is awesome for assisting with creation of websites
  • Has been rapidly growing and improving itself for the past three years

Joomla Cons

  • Still not user-friendly enough for everyone to understand
  • Not quite as powerful as Drupal, and can be a bit confusing for some to jump into
  • Recently rebuilt the entire system from ground-up, and so there are still many out there sticking to the old versions (1.0.x)

Let me know what you think about the article  and your Views on the CMS : [ratings]

I am not very familiar with Joomla because I am certified WordPress addict. However, i agree with you on this assessment: "Upgrades bring more bugs than fixes sometimes."

That happened to me last month when I upgraded my blogs to 3.1.

      Emma,
Ideally upgrades would not create much problems, ive been doing it for past few years. You need to make sure your theme and plugin are compatible before you upgrade and also remember to back up your DB

      cheers, Josh

I am using WordPress and I think this is enough for me as of press time…I am just a very humble copy paste non-techie person.

Absolutely – wordpress is the best when it comes to non techi users!

wordpress pages load faster when compared to Drupal. WordPress also has a plugin for SEO. We need to enter the special keywords.

    Hi,

I am not good on technical part of a site that's why I prefer wordpress.

I find Drupal more powerful as a open source CMS. With is version 7.X, many powerful features are included. And with its improving micro-blogging module it can develop instant updating content sharing as we can fine in twitter and some sites. Two years back i use joomla for designing a newspaper online portal and i found its weakness in many ways. And now i am doing my second project with drupal and i find it more flexible.

  10. Custom Idx guru says:

Great effort,Joshu Thomas. The content provided in the above post is really helpful for choosing appropriate CMS, for web development, but we should have knowledge about conversions like PSD to joomla,PSD to wordpress etc. I was unknown about these conversions, so I took help from Brushart. So if you want to know more about Conversion such as PSD to Joomla, PSD to HTML,PSD to Drupal, you can take help from Brushart.

I really like Joomla for its versatility. You can use Joomla to make different kinds of website such as blog, membership site, simple content provider, integration with forum etc. etc. After all it has huge nice extensions, almost you can get free to meet your requirement.
