Today I would share a list of best link directories of the year 2010 – 2011 that has worked really well with me for my Search engine optimization projects. The below list includes both premium and free link directories that could get you higher rankings for your website. Make sure you submit in the correct categories and that does matter.
Best Free Link Directories
The DMOZ is an open source project that was established in the year 1998. The DMOZ has a page rank 8. The main advantage of getting listed in DMOZ is that you would automatically get listed in 1000s of other directories automatically as many directories feed from DMOZ. Librarians’ Internet Index Directory
LI directory is a very powerful free internet web directory that was established in the year 1998. It has a page rank 8. The listing is free
Jayde’s Directory was started early in the year 1996. The directory has very good traffic and has a page rank 4
Mavicanet Directory
Mavicanet directory was established in the year 1998. The directory has a page rank 5.
Illumirate directory was started in the year 2003. The directory is very SEO friendly and drives good traffic. The listing to this directory is free and the page rank is 5
Connectring is a free, organized and fast approving human managed links directory. This has a Page rank 4 and has an alexa rank of 300k.

Does your list take into consideration the recent changes in Google in regard to how they are penalizing paid links? I'm curious if these directories are safe before I submit?

Directory submissions ideally does not come under paid submissions or paid links. The main reason is that a directory has categories and its meta tags and keywords makes sure that it looks to the SE bots that its from a related site or section that is linking back. Also make sure that you use different anchor texts each time you add a back link and this makes it look very natural and will not be penalized.

Re the paid directories do the benefits of being in them outweigh the cost? Be interested in the pros and cons anyone can add like does being in them improve the improve the pagerank and authority of a site?
Nice list. There aren't any additional free directories that you would recommend? I know there are a ton out there and most are crap, so I'm curious to get your feedback on some other genuine gems.
