How Facebook Graph could transform Social search?
Facebook announced the launch of “Facebook Graph” a new feature that has the potential to transform the way anyone would search for anything. Even though FB had an active search button, it was of not much use other than searching for people or communities. The Graph is more of a Social / reality search and sure does have the potential to find more “real results”.
The first source feeding the graph is your friends! That means, you are searching within your interests (hopefully many of your friends share the same) and the second source feeding the graph is the trust factor you have for your friends. The two reasons add on to the genuine nature of the search result. This means, you have better chance of finding REAL results from your search rather than the usual cooked up search results on many of the review websites. That really shows the potential of the new Facebook graph!
Now, the FB developers have smartly coded down an awesome search model that would be searching through the billions of users and their data that Facebook already has (that is really cool). The huge database of users and their tastes makes the Graph search more like asking trustworthy real humans about their likes and drawing a patter from the same, isn’t that awesome?
The graph is now in its most novel phase, where it is only open to limited areas in US and is in more of a Beta testing phase where the FB coders would be experimenting to find the right mix and match. In addition, to the great code model, they have also built in sensible suggesting tool that would suggest questions matching their queries to dig up results from user likes, communities, pages, photos, interests, places etc.
Below are some screenshots and pictures from the official FB Graph release page from Facebook, that would give you an idea on what the tool does, to learn more, I would recommend you to use Graph yourselves! Let us know your feedback on the new innovative invention from the social giant.
