How to use Twitter to it’s Potential

Twitter is THE best micro blogging and social networking tool on the Internet today! The success rate of using a twitter account totally depends on the way you use this awesome tool.

The success mantra of using twitter are:

1. Crafting the perfect profile
2. Following just the right people
3. Have a good amount of people following you
4. Your followers should be well within your target niche
5. Tweeting sensibly like a human being and not a bot!

I can say with confidence If you have the right approach with the above guidelines and consistently use twitter for smart networking, you have just discovered a goldmine! Few examples of what twitter could do for you are:

1. A single tweet bringing thousands of unique visitors to your web page.
2. Making great contacts within your niche
3. Judging the pulse of your niche using twitter search
4. Building your online presence.

How to use Twitter to it's Potential

If you observe the screenshot of my Twitter account stats, you will observe that the Follower to Following ratio is very high – Even though 2300 + people follow my account, I only follow a mere 15. Ideally, this is a healthy ratio that you should try to maintain on your Twitter account. Following many users means too many tweets on your Twitter dashboard and it gets difficult to manage and respond to tweets that really matter to you. Hence make sure you only follow the people who you want to hear from and unfollow the remaining.

Manually managing your Twitter account is very tedious and its a smart move to use intelligent applications like TweetAdder (the one I use) to automatically follow your niche related profiles and later unfollow in bulk if you do not find the useful enough. This strategy has helped me build my twitter follower count and also keep my following limited to only accounts of my choice.

Critical Twitter etiquette to follow: Even though there are many, the most important of them is to make sure you use Twitter like a real human being and rather not like a Bot. Do not continually tweet links and articles from your blog as these might irritate your followers and eventually lead them to unfollow your account. Tweet sensible and meaningful lines to your followers and make sure you respond back to interesting tweets from the people you follow. Have a genuine effort to connect with quality twitter accounts and in the process you could make some good friends within your niche.

Use “hashtags” while making every single Tweets – Hashtags are simple keywords preceded by the # symbol, for example: if you are tweeting about the launch of iPhone 4, include the hashtags like #iphone4G #iphone4release etc. This will help your tweets get noticed when someone searches in Twitter using the keywords.

Take Home: Hope the above tips has helped you identify a meaning and purpose of using the wonderful Social Networking tool called Twitter!
