Why Google PageRank can’t still be ignored
Even though Google continuously announces that Google PR is an internal website metric to gauge website quality it still remains one of the top reasons to influence your search engine results page ranks (SERP).
Yesterday there was the first and latest Google Page Rank update of the year 2012 (February 6th 2012) and most of the web masters reported a positive change in their website page ranks. Some of the web-masters did not experience any change in website page rank, even though the update was considered to be a major page rank update.
Why Google PR is still a vital metric? The major reason why website owners try hard for improving the website page rank is because PR contributes heavily to the search results algorithm.
How to improve website Google Page Rank? Google PR is like a reputation rank among the websites and on a scale of 0 to 10 anything above 1 or 2 is a decent rank and above 6 is considered to be high rank and reputation website.
Even though back links from high PR websites is considered to be the best method to improve page rank, building quality content and traffic though search engines can drastically improve your website’s page rank.
My 2 months old latest technology blog has achieved a PR 3 in the short time with just 80 high quality articles a d is already receiving considerable search traffic. I would recommend concentrating on content more rather than spending time on link building to improve your page rank. You can check your website page rank online to understand where your website is placed as per Google standards.

I believe that HomePage PageRank is the best guide we have on Google's view of a website's authority. Having high HomePage PageRank does not guarantee high positioning as relevancy also matters and this is determined by on-page content and incoming link anchor text.
HomePage PageRank is best used as a guide to KEYWORD DIFFICULTY. For example, if the average HomePage PageRank of the web pages on the top SERP on Google for a keyword is 5.4 and your website has a HomePage PageRank of less than 3, it is highly unlikely that your website will be able to hit the top page on Google.
David,
well explained! Thanks for adding in your comment and explaining your point.

I am quite confused. My one of the blog with great page view has less page rank (2) and other blog with less visits is pr 4. So PR doesnot matter in traffic. Thats all what I wanted to say.
PR is no way in relation to traffic. Its the content quality, uniqueness, backlinks from high pr websites, frequency of updation, domain age, link to page and domain etc. that really matter.

PageRank is just one of the factors that affect SERP ranking. There are still many factors out there that will affect your ranking on SERP. A PR 4 website can be lower than a PR 2 website.
